Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)

What is a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)?

A urinary tract infection occurs when bacteria gets into your urine and travels up to your bladder.

Urinary tract infections are fairly common, and can occur in both men and women. If you have had one UTI, it is more likely you will develop another.

Symptoms of a Urinary Tract Infection

  • Feeling the need to urinate more often.
  • Burning sensation when urinating.
  • Loss of control of urination.
  • Urine has a bad smell or is cloudy.

Kidney infections often cause fevers and back pain. These infections need to be treated at once because a kidney infection can quickly spread into the bloodstream and cause a life-threatening health issue.

If You Have These Symptoms

If you are experiencing symptoms, especially if you get UTIs often (3 or more per year), then you should see your health care provider.
